Auction Basket Donations

On March 18th , the JCCEF will host our annual fundraising auction and each class collects things for a themed basket to contribute to the auction.  This year our class theme is Coffee, Tea & Chocolate.  Keep the theme in mind as you are out and about during vacation. You might come across a great deal on something related to our basket.

We can also use large baskets (20 inches +) to hold the many wonderful items that parents donate.  There will be more information about the baskets, tickets and opportunities to help with the action after the holiday.

We welcome any contribution to this fundraising event.  The money that we raise from the auction each year funds many things for the school and our classrooms including field trips, the document cameras, class plays, the school play, music programs, etc.

Thank you for your support!

Avoid Morning Parking Lot Congestion

If you would like to avoid the congestion of the Jacoby Creek School parking lot in the morning, please consider using our Arcata Community Center bus stop.  The bus to Jacoby Creek School leaves the Arcata Community Center each morning at 8:10 a.m.  Only a few families are currently taking advantage of this option.  Please consider dropping your child off at the Arcata Community Center and having them ride the bus to school.  This could really improve our parking lot situation and save you time!! Please call the office if you have any questions.

There are less than 2 weeks left for turning in the Panther Pentathlon donations.  We have received some donations – but we need more in order for the thermometer to begin to rise!  Please help us to reach our goal of $55,000 in order to continue the tradition of excellence at JCS.

Donation packets can be turned into the classrooms any day between now and October 5th.   The Panther Pentathlon celebration event will be at school the morning of October 6th – remember to wear your class colors!  The winners of the classroom ice-cream parties will be announced during the PP!

Reminders for After School Pick Up

In order to help with the flow of traffic and safety in our very congested parking lot, please remember these details:

  • Pick up your child in the lane nearest the curb only.
  • Stay in your vehicle at all times when in the lane closest to the curb.
  • Move forward in the pick-up lane as cars leave if you are still waiting for your child.
  • Only the front parking lot is open for pick up.

Also remember that supervision in the parking lot ends at 3:15. If your child is not picked up by that time, they will need to go to the Activity Center until their ride arrives.

Thank your for your help!

Welcome Back!

We have been working hard getting ready for your return, students. We hope you had a wonderful summer and are ready to get back to work, too!

If you have not yet gathered the materials needed for school, try to have them by the second week. Having your work organized is important when moving through all of your classes, and you want to get off to a good start.

Also, our first assembly will be Friday, August 26. It would be great if you could wear your class color to show your spirit. The seventh grade class color is purple, and the eighth grade color is white this year.

As for the first day, remember that seventh graders will go to their homeroom classes with either Mr. Barsanti or Ms. Skiles first, and eighth graders will go PE first and then to their homeroom classes with either Mr. Goddard or Mrs. Holmes second period. Your homeroom teachers will have your schedules, assignment planner, and your first week paperwork to distribute.

Enjoy your last bit of summer, and we'll see you soon!

New JCS Website

We are very excited to announce that JCS now has a new website!  Thank you so much to Mr. Mack for designing an amazing site. We now have local control over keeping the website up to date and making sure that it is a great resource for families.
The results from the parent surveys and California Healthy Kids surveys are all available on the new site. Make sure to check out the survey results while you explore.

Important information for students that live outside the district boundaries

Our transition from a charter school to a traditional public school will have one last impact on some JCS families.  By the start of the 2016-2017 school year, all JCS students living outside of the district boundaries will need to get an interdistrict transfer from their district of residence.  This is a document that you will get from your child’s “neighborhood school.”  The interdistrict transfer is an agreement between your child’s district of residence school, Jacoby Creek School, and you.  Your interdistrict transfer will need to be renewed annually.  Your child’s interdistrict transfer will need to be filed with the school by the start of next year. Please consider taking care of this prior to the end of this school year, as many school offices are closed or operating under different schedules during the summer.   Many JCS families  have already filed this paperwork and everyone says that it has been smooth and easy!  Please call the office if you have any questions about interdistrict transfers or if you need help finding your district of residence's office.  We would be happy to help you!

Foggy Bottom Run

Foggy Bottom has been a fun tradition to kick off the start of track season.  The deadline to register and have your shirts delivered to the school was yesterday, however, I am optimistic that if you register today that your shirts may still be delivered to Jacoby Creek School during the week of March 7th.  There is a reduced price of $10 for the 2 mile run, ages 0-14, which includes a t-shirt.  Make sure to list JCS for your school.

For those planning to be in track -Let me know if your athlete plans on running—I will look out for you guys and hopefully we can take a group picture before the run.  Below you will find the link to sign up.

 Best regards, Davita
