Self Defense Training Opportunity

A full weekend self defense training for middle and high school girls with Carrie Slack from College fo the Redwoods is available.
Saturday and Sunday, April 28-29, 10:00 am-5:00 pm
at The Sanctuary, 1301 J Street, Arcata
Sliding scale $15-$45, no one turned away for lack of funds

After School Enrichment

Enrollment for Session three of the JCS ASE program has started.

The forms will be available on the JCS web site. 

Classes start after Spring Break. Study Hall starts on April 2 and is open for all students in 4th-8th grades.

Forms for enrollment are also available in the JCS office.


School Play

The all-school play, Seussical, will be performed this Friday and Saturday, March 30 & 31, at 6:00 P.M. in the library. We hope to see you there!

Science Fair / History Day Evening Program

The Science/History Evening Program will be held on Tuesday, February 13th, from 7-8pm in the gym. Please come and check out the nearly 120 6th-8th grade Science Fair projects as well as History Day projects by 5th and 8th graders on display in the gym. These students have done some excellent work and are ready to share their research with you. Prepare to be impressed!
     This year attendance for those with projects will be heavily encouraged, but not required as has been in other years. There will be extra credit given for those who do attend. Students are requested to be present at their projects from 7:15-7:45 to answer questions and discuss their work with adults and other visitors in attendance.

JCCEF Auction

Our annual Dinner, Auction, and Dance is Saturday March 17, 2018 at the Arcata Community Center.  Join us on St. Patrick's Day for Dinner catered by Sammy's BBQ and Dancing to Eyes Anonymous!

Tickets will go on sale starting next Monday, February 5thThere is still time if you want to be a business sponsor. Contact Heidi Walsh (hwalsh@jcsk8.org) for more information about becoming a business sponsor. Please consider donating to the class baskets, items for the live and silent auctions, wine. February Family Maker Night

The next Family Maker Night is on February 15th and is sponsored by Mattole Valley Charter School.

The event will be held at Lost Coast High (the old Worthington School site) at 3400 Erie Street, Eureka.

Family Maker Night happens every third Thursday of the month at different locations around the county.  It is a free event and is open to all families in our community.  Activities are different every month and are most appropriate for ages 4-14. See flyer.

Upper Grade Spelling Bee Results

Recently, students were tested to determine the top two spellers in each homeroom, who were then invited to participate in the JCS 7-8 Spelling Bee Test.

Yesterday, the 7-8 JCS Spelling Bee Test was taken, and our top two spellers and an alternate were determined.

Our top two spellers are now invited to participate in the Northern Humboldt Regional Spelling Bee for grades 7-9 that will take place on February 8, 2018, at 1:30 at McKinleyville Middle School.

PTO MOVIE DAY

The PTO will be hosting a free family movie day in the LIBRARY (location change from the gym) on Sunday, January 21 from 2:00-4:00 p.m.  Bring your pillows, blankets, and lawn chairs. The PTO will be showing the movie Inside Out and there will be a donation snack bar.  

Pints for Non-profits and JCS Staff Band

Wednesday, January 17 with a Pints for Nonprofits Day!

$1 for every pint sold at Redwood Curtain Brewery from noon-midnight  on January 17 will be donated to the school.  Last year we used the proceeds to purchase new drinking fountains!

Our JCS Staff Band will be playing from 6:00-9:00 p.m. and the LoCo Fish Truck will be selling food.  If families are interested, we could organize daycare here at JCS for the evening.  Please email Mrs. Nannizzi and let her know if you would be interested in JCS daycare that evening.

Save the Date for the JCCEF Auction!

This year’s auction is on St. Patrick's Day at the Arcata Community Center.  Our school is lucky to have such a wonderful community that supports our students. Please help with selling tickets, collecting donations, filling classroom basket, donating baskets or setting up the day of the auction. If you would like to be a business sponsor for this year’s auction please contact Mrs. Walsh hwalsh@jcsk8.org by January 31st.
We hope everyone will help us bring in the green to make our auction a success. The auction and pentathlon fund many of the activities we do at school including Music, Drama, Sports, Technology, PAT Days, Library Books, Second Grade Swimming, JCS Live, Third Grade Dune Field Trips and many more things that create a rainbow of learning here at Jacoby Creek. Oral Language Faire

The 17th Annual JCS Oral Language Faire will take place on Thursday, March 8, 2018, at 6:30 pm for families and Friday, March 9, 2018, at 1:00 pm for the school and judging panel. The sign-up sheet and student permission slips are available in the library near the door. Permission slips must be completed, signed by a parent, and returned by Friday, January 19, 2018. Audition and rehearsal times are available on the paperwork given with the permission slip and here.

Participation in the school performance and judging on Friday, March 9, is the second trimester opportunity for extra credit in 7th and 8th grade Language Arts.
